Who are we?

Pier 22 fishing is a non profit organization dedicated to helping Veterans and kids create positive lifestyle experiences.  We help Veterans who are struggling with PTSD by providing them with an individualized fishing experience, building meaningful relationships with them on the water and help them discover the benefits of mother nature.  We help kids with life experiences by showing them how to fish, help them explore mother nature and build meaningful relationships.

About Me:

Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN. With 8 siblings in total the house was always crazy. Slipping away to fish the twin cities lakes and creeks was my sanctuary away from the chaos of a large family.

Love fishing, music, smoked foods, softball and craft beer. Specifically love doing these things with my core group of friends and family.

Favorite sports teams: Twins and Vikings

Why did I help start Pier22 Fishing?

My father, step father and grandfather were all military vets. With my father and step father visibly impacted on a daily from their time in the military, with my father serving in the Air Force and my step father serving in the Marine Corps. When I was 15 my step father took his own life, the day prior to my mothers birthday and the day after Easter. I was forever changed by that event. Both my dad’s were avid fishermen and outdoorsmen. With my father being a fishing guide, who loved to also bow hunt, duck hunt and hunt for grouse. My step father being an avid fisherman, deer hunter and small game hunter. It’s safe to say I spent a lot of time outside and on the water. To this day it is a way for me to connect with my dad’s even though they are gone from this earth.

So for me the connection to Pier22 is an easy one. The 22 in Pier22 stands for the number of vets that take their life on average each day. Helping, giving back and connecting vets to the water, the memories and the void it can fill with fishing is something I believe is powerful and can change lives.

Why did I help start Pier 22 Fishing?

I grew up in Minnesota and have had the opportunity to fish since I was in diapers. My family has always been the outdoor type, where we camp on the islands of St Croix river. Some of my best fishing memories are with my dad and uncle, where we would drift fish walleyes on lake Mille Lacs. Although, there were many fishing times when we wouldn’t catch any fish, but it taught me the patience and comradery of fishing with friends and family. I have since become a father myself and found myself blessed to be able to take my family and friends fishing.

Why did I help start Pier 22 Fishing?

While growing up I discovered fishing brings peace and solitude. There is nothing better than enjoying a beautiful day on the lake, making great memories with friends, family and even strangers that become friends while fishing.

I grew up in a family where we always helped others. My dad was a firefighter for 34 years and my mom still working in nursing homes/assisted living buildings for over 20 years.  I have family and friends that were or still are in the military. Being able to see many walks of life and hear their stories opens your eyes to what affects this world can have on individuals.

It’s in my nature to want to help others. With Pier22 Fishing it is going to offer healing for our Veterans and offer new life experiences for youth. I think these are important opportunities to offer to the community to bring us together and let people know we are here for them.
